Now, don’t get upset! Don’t start sending hate mail yet, but allow me to clarify:

Imagine:

As great as your art or design skills are, as big as your imagination and creative ideas are…God considers it “Nothing” if you can do it in your own ability.

As accomplished a designer or artist you are, no matter how much money you’re able to command for your talent…God considers it “Nothing” if you can get there without His help.

Jesus said this to His followers:

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” -John 15:5

Because of the love He has for you as His creation and as an artist, God dreams BIG about you. And when He says “you can do nothing”, I picture Him saying “If you think THIS is success (what you’ve done within your own strength), you ain’t seen NOTHING yet!”

God daydreams about you and your creative ability (see Psalm 139:17-18 New International Version). He’s had BIG PLANS for you as an artist long before you were born. Those big plans can only be fulfilled by allowing God access to the gift He’s given you.

Where you miss out is believing that you can accomplish those plans separate from God. Yes, you can create and design, the world will love it, but did it maximize your God-given potential? Did it accomplish what God daydreamed about?

You’ve had success in the past as an artist or designer. You have the coolest idea in mind that is going to put you closer to what you call success. But God’s thinking about it is this:

If it can be accomplished on your own, He considers it “Nothing”.

NOTES:

1. “God Daydreams About You”:

“How precious (concerning) me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.” Psalm 139:17-18 (New International Version)
